Altern Energy Announces Cancellation of Generation Licence
Karachi: Altern Energy Limited has disclosed a significant development concerning its power generation operations, informing the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has cancelled the company’s generation licence.
According to the company’s material information disclosure, the cancellation follows an application submitted by Altern Energy to NEPRA on June 10, 2026. The generation licence, identified as Licence No. IGP(L)/021/2024, has been cancelled with effect from August 28, 2026.
Company Can No Longer Generate or Sell Electricity
Altern Energy stated that, following the termination of its agreements, the company is no longer able to generate and sell electricity to Central Power Generation Agency (Guarantee) Limited (CPGCL).
With the company’s power generation equipment now considered surplus to its requirements, the board of directors has instructed management to explore proposals for the disposal of the company’s plant and machinery.
The move marks an important shift in Altern Energy’s operations as the company considers options for its power generation assets following the termination of the relevant agreements.
Disclosure Submitted to PSX
The latest announcement was made in continuation of earlier material information notices submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The company referred to notices dated March 24, 2025, November 26, 2025, and May 4, 2026, before providing the latest update regarding the licence cancellation and its power generation assets.
Altern Energy requested the exchange to disseminate the information to its members in accordance with applicable disclosure requirements.
The development is likely to remain significant for shareholders as the company evaluates potential proposals for the disposal of its plant and machinery and determines the next course of action following the end of its electricity generation arrangements.
