Atlas Battery Limited Reports Quarterly Loss as Finance Costs Weigh on Profitability

Atlas Battery Limited has reported a net loss of Rs336.13 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with a net profit of Rs50.46 million in the same period last year, according to the company’s latest financial statements submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The company’s financial results were reviewed by its Board of Directors at a meeting held in Karachi on October 19, 2026. The results highlight pressure on profitability despite an increase in net sales during the quarter.

Net Sales Increase, but Gross Profit Declines

Atlas Battery recorded net sales of Rs8.09 billion during the quarter, compared with Rs8.48 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. This represents a decline of approximately 4.6% in sales.

Gross profit dropped to Rs580.33 million from Rs882.31 million a year earlier, reflecting a significant reduction in the company’s gross profitability. The gross profit margin also declined, indicating greater pressure on earnings relative to sales.

The company reported operating profit of Rs32.05 million, down sharply from Rs304.86 million in the same quarter last year. Lower gross profit was a major factor behind the weaker operating performance.

Higher Finance Costs Add to Pressure

Finance costs increased to Rs278.98 million during the quarter, compared with Rs220.71 million in the corresponding period last year. The increase in financing expenses further affected the company’s bottom line.

Atlas Battery posted a loss before income tax, final tax and revenue tax of Rs246.94 million, compared with a profit of Rs84.14 million in the same period last year. After accounting for taxes, the company recorded a net loss of Rs336.13 million.

Consequently, loss per share stood at Rs9.60, compared with earnings per share of Rs1.44 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Position

Atlas Battery’s total assets stood at Rs21.11 billion as of September 30, 2026, compared with Rs22.12 billion at June 30, 2026. The company’s total equity declined to Rs7.20 billion from Rs7.54 billion at the end of the previous financial year.

The balance sheet also showed short-term borrowings of approximately Rs6.54 billion, while long-term borrowings amounted to Rs1.04 billion. These figures highlight the importance of managing financing requirements and working capital.

Despite reporting a quarterly loss, the company generated net cash of Rs688.56 million from operating activities during the period, compared with net cash used in operations of Rs1.54 billion in the same quarter last year. This improvement was supported by changes in working capital and other operating items.

However, cash and cash equivalents decreased by Rs97.51 million during the quarter, ending at Rs812.11 million.

No Dividend or Bonus Shares Announced

Alongside its financial results, Atlas Battery announced that its board had not recommended a cash dividend, bonus shares or a rights issue for the period ended September 30, 2026.

The company stated that its quarterly report would be transmitted separately through the Pakistan Unified Corporate Action Reporting System (PUCARS) within the prescribed timeframe.

Outlook for Investors

Atlas Battery’s latest results reflect a challenging quarter, marked by lower sales, reduced gross profit, weaker operating earnings and higher finance costs. The shift from a quarterly profit to a substantial net loss is a key development for investors monitoring the company’s financial performance.

Going forward, investors will likely focus on the company’s ability to improve margins, control financing expenses, manage borrowings and sustain positive operating cash flows.

The next quarterly results should provide further insight into whether Atlas Battery can restore profitability and strengthen its financial position during the remainder of fiscal year 2026-27.
