Bunny’s Limited has reported a significant decline in profitability for the first quarter ended September 30, 2026, despite maintaining almost stable sales compared with the corresponding period last year. The company’s latest financial results highlight the growing pressure of raw material prices, energy expenses, packaging costs and distribution expenditures on Pakistan’s food manufacturing industry.
According to the company’s financial statements, net sales reached Rs2.02 billion during the quarter, compared with Rs2.01 billion in the same period last year. However, the slight improvement in revenue did not translate into higher earnings as increasing production and operating costs significantly affected the company’s profit margins.
Profitability Comes Under Pressure
Bunny’s Limited recorded gross profit of Rs456.55 million during the quarter, compared with Rs598.02 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. Consequently, the gross profit margin declined to 22.65% from 29.72%.
The company’s operating profit also experienced a substantial reduction, falling to Rs40.76 million from Rs234.49 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, profit after taxation dropped to Rs14.70 million against Rs162.13 million in the same quarter last year.
Earnings per share (EPS) also declined to Rs0.02 compared with Rs0.24, reflecting the considerable impact of rising costs on the company’s financial performance.
Rising Production and Distribution Costs
The company’s management attributed the decline in profitability primarily to higher prices of key raw materials, fuel, energy, packaging materials and distribution expenses.
Fluctuations in international energy markets, partly associated with geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, have added pressure to manufacturing and transportation costs. Domestic wheat and flour price movements have also increased expenses for the company, as flour remains one of its essential production inputs.
Furthermore, rising packaging costs and intense competition have limited the company’s ability to fully transfer additional expenses to consumers through higher product prices.
These challenges demonstrate the difficulties facing food manufacturers in maintaining profitability while keeping their products affordable for customers.
Focus on Operational Efficiency and Cost Management
Despite the challenging financial results, Bunny’s Limited is focusing on improving operational efficiency and strengthening its financial position.
Management plans to optimize its product mix, improve production processes, minimize wastage and strengthen procurement and inventory management. The company also intends to review pricing strategies while considering changing input costs, competitive pressures and consumer affordability.
Better working capital management, improved cash flow planning and tighter control over operating expenses are also among the company’s key priorities.
Investment in Modernization and Production Facilities
Bunny’s Limited continues to emphasize the modernization of its manufacturing facilities and equipment. The company believes that adopting improved technology can support more efficient production, reduce operating costs and strengthen its competitive position.
During the quarter, the company reported additions of approximately Rs218.98 million to its fixed assets, mainly reflecting investment in plant and machinery and other equipment.
Such investment may help improve production capacity and operational efficiency over the longer term.
Outlook: Restoring Profitability Remains a Priority
Looking ahead, the company’s ability to manage raw material costs, improve gross margins and strengthen operational performance will remain important factors in its financial recovery.
Uncertainty surrounding commodity prices, energy expenses, geopolitical developments and domestic economic conditions may continue to affect the food manufacturing sector.
Nevertheless, Bunny’s Limited management remains committed to improving profitability through cost optimization, operational discipline, productivity improvements and continued attention to product quality and customer satisfaction.
The company’s first-quarter results underline the importance of balancing revenue growth with effective cost management. While sales remained relatively stable, restoring profit margins will be essential for Bunny’s Limited to improve its financial performance and deliver sustainable value to shareholders in the coming quarters.
