KARACHI: Dewan Cement Limited reported an increase in revenue during the first nine months of FY2026, but the company remained in the red as higher operating expenses, finance costs, and tax charges weighed on its overall financial performance. The financial results were approved by the Board of Directors at its meeting held on April 27, 2026.

According to the company’s unaudited financial results for the nine months ended March 31, 2026, net turnover rose to Rs18.23 billion, compared with Rs15.73 billion recorded in the corresponding period last year, reflecting stronger sales performance. Gross profit also improved to Rs1.08 billion, up from Rs893.60 million a year earlier.

Despite the higher revenue, Dewan Cement reported an operating loss of Rs140.50 million, compared with an operating loss of Rs66.08 million in the same period last year. Administrative and distribution expenses increased during the period, while finance costs and taxation continued to pressure profitability.

As a result, the company posted a net loss of Rs507.99 million for the nine-month period, significantly higher than the Rs328.24 million loss reported in the corresponding period of FY2025. Loss per share widened to Rs1.05, compared with Rs0.68 in the previous year.

On a quarterly basis, however, Dewan Cement showed an improvement. The company earned a net profit of Rs103.80 million during the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared with a net loss of Rs30.77 million in the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the quarter stood at Rs0.21, versus a loss per share of Rs0.06 a year earlier.

The board did not recommend any cash dividend, bonus shares, right shares, or any other corporate action for shareholders.

The company’s financial position remained broadly stable, with total assets standing at Rs47.55 billion as of March 31, 2026. Cash and bank balances improved to Rs242.45 million, supported by positive cash flows from financing activities, including advances received against the issuance of shares.

While Dewan Cement’s revenue growth and return to quarterly profitability indicate improving operational momentum, the company’s cumulative nine-month results underscore the challenges posed by elevated costs and financial obligations. Sustained cost management and stronger operating margins will be key to restoring full-year profitability in the coming quarters.
