AKD Securities Limited has announced its participation in a consortium seeking to take part in the privatization of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), marking a significant development in Pakistan’s ongoing power-sector privatization efforts.

According to a material information notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on August 24, 2026, AKD Securities has obtained the Request for Statement of Qualification (RSOQ) issued by the Privatization Commission for the proposed divestment of GEPCO through privatization.

The company’s Board of Directors has approved its participation in a consortium comprising AKD Securities Limited, Fast Cables Limited, AJCL (Private) Limited, and Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited. The consortium members have designated AKD Securities as the Lead Consortium Member, giving it authority to conduct business on behalf of the group during the privatization process.

AKD Securities to Lead Consortium

As lead member, AKD Securities will represent the consortium through its authorized representative and will have the power to sub-delegate responsibilities as required during the process. This arrangement positions the securities firm at the center of the consortium’s engagement with the Privatization Commission.

However, the disclosure makes clear that the consortium has not yet assumed any binding obligation regarding the proposed transaction. The process remains conditional upon pre-qualification by the Privatization Commission as well as the completion of all required corporate and regulatory approvals.

Consortium Brings Together Diverse Businesses

The consortium brings together companies from different areas of Pakistan’s corporate sector. Alongside AKD Securities, it includes Fast Cables Limited, AJCL (Private) Limited and Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited.

Their participation highlights the potential interest of private-sector investors in the privatization of GEPCO and reflects the broader role that consortium structures can play in major transactions requiring substantial financial, technical and operational capabilities.

GEPCO Privatization Still in Preliminary Stage

The announcement does not confirm that the consortium has acquired GEPCO or that the transaction has been finalized. Instead, it represents a step in the qualification and privatization process.

The company stated that the Pakistan Stock Exchange will be informed about material developments as the process progresses.

For investors, the announcement is therefore best viewed as an indication of AKD Securities’ strategic participation in the GEPCO privatization process rather than confirmation of a completed transaction.

The development could nevertheless attract attention in the market as the government advances efforts to bring private-sector participation into the power distribution sector. Further clarity is expected as the consortium moves through the Privatization Commission’s pre-qualification and regulatory stages.
