KARACHI: EFU General Insurance Limited reported a consolidated profit after tax of Rs1.259 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared with Rs1.497 billion in the same period last year, according to the company’s financial statements.

The company’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at Rs5.58 during the quarter, down from Rs6.10 recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

Despite the decline in bottom-line earnings, EFU General Insurance posted growth in its core insurance business. Consolidated net insurance premium increased to Rs18.181 billion in the first quarter of 2026 from Rs16.164 billion a year earlier.

Net insurance claims also rose during the period, reaching Rs14.424 billion, compared with Rs13.409 billion in the same quarter of 2025. Net acquisition costs increased to Rs3.435 billion, while management expenses stood at Rs2.659 billion, compared with Rs2.056 billion previously.

The company reported investment income of approximately Rs725 million during the quarter, compared with Rs8.716 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. The sharp change in investment-related income was a major factor affecting overall profitability.

EFU General Insurance also recorded a significant impact from changes in the fair value of financial assets. The company reported an unrealized loss on available-for-sale investments during the period, contributing to a consolidated comprehensive loss despite the profit reported in the income statement.

At the standalone level, EFU General Insurance posted profit after tax of Rs1.065 billion, compared with Rs943.662 million in the first quarter of 2025. Standalone EPS consequently improved to Rs5.32 from Rs4.72.

The company’s consolidated financial position remained substantial, with total assets of approximately Rs364.6 billion at March 31, 2026, compared with around Rs380.1 billion at December 31, 2025.

Alongside the quarterly results, EFU General Insurance declared a first interim cash dividend of Rs1.50 per share, equivalent to 15%, for the three-month period ended March 31, 2026. The dividend will be paid to shareholders whose names appear on the company’s register of members as of the relevant book-closure date.

The results indicate that while EFU General Insurance continued to expand its insurance premium base and maintained profitability in its standalone operations, lower investment income and market-related valuation movements weighed on consolidated earnings during the quarter. The company’s financial statements are dated April 24, 2026.
