Media Times Limited has reported a significant increase in profitability for the first quarter of the financial year 2026–27, supported by higher revenue, improved gross profit and a substantial contribution from its associate company.

According to the company’s unaudited financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on October 16, 2026, profit after taxation reached Rs. 116.81 million, compared with Rs. 2.21 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Revenue and Gross Profit Show Improvement

Media Times Limited recorded net revenue of Rs. 59.71 million during July–September 2026, compared with Rs. 31.74 million in the same period last year. This represents an increase of approximately 88%, reflecting stronger reported revenue during the quarter.

The company’s cost of production rose to Rs. 15.07 million from Rs. 13.02 million. Despite the higher production cost, gross profit increased to Rs. 44.64 million, compared with Rs. 18.72 million in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

Administrative and selling expenses declined to Rs. 8.18 million from Rs. 14.42 million, while finance costs fell to Rs. 4.69 million from Rs. 12.95 million. These reductions helped improve the company’s reported profitability.

Associate Income Boosts Quarterly Earnings

A major contributor to Media Times Limited’s quarterly results was its share of net profit from an associate, which amounted to Rs. 67.27 million during the quarter. No corresponding income from this source was reported in the same period last year.

The company also recorded other income of Rs. 18.51 million, compared with Rs. 11.27 million a year earlier.

As a result, profit before income tax and minimum tax increased to Rs. 117.55 million from Rs. 2.61 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. After accounting for minimum tax of Rs. 0.75 million, profit after taxation stood at Rs. 116.81 million.

Earnings per share also improved considerably, rising to Rs. 0.65 from Rs. 0.01 in the same quarter last year.

Financial Position at September 30, 2026

The company’s statement of financial position showed total assets of approximately Rs. 1.69 billion as of September 30, 2026, compared with Rs. 1.49 billion at June 30, 2026.

Investment in an associate increased to Rs. 1.55 billion from Rs. 1.34 billion. Meanwhile, cash and bank balances stood at Rs. 2.31 million, down from Rs. 12.74 million at the end of June 2026.

Total equity reached Rs. 221.68 million, compared with Rs. 104.87 million at June 30, 2026. The company continued to report accumulated losses, which stood at approximately Rs. 1.64 billion at the end of September.

These figures indicate an improvement in reported equity and profitability, although the relatively low cash balance and accumulated losses remain important factors for investors to consider.

Cash Flow and Dividend Position

The cash flow statement showed net cash used in operating activities of Rs. 10.43 million during the quarter, compared with Rs. 4.70 million in the same period of the previous year. Cash and cash equivalents declined from Rs. 12.74 million at the beginning of the quarter to Rs. 2.31 million at the end.

The company also stated that no payout had been declared; therefore, no book closure was required in connection with a payout.

Outlook for Investors

Media Times Limited’s latest quarterly results reflect a substantial improvement in reported earnings, supported by revenue growth, lower administrative expenses, reduced finance costs and income from its associate company.

However, investors should also consider the composition of earnings, operating cash flow, liquidity and the company’s accumulated losses when assessing its financial position. The contribution from the associate company was a significant factor in the quarter’s results, making it important to distinguish between core operating performance and income from other sources.

The results are unaudited, and investors should review the company’s complete financial statements and subsequent disclosures before making investment decisions.

Conclusion: Media Times Limited delivered a strong year-on-year increase in quarterly profit for the period ended September 30, 2026. While the improvement in earnings and gross profit is notable, future performance will depend on sustained business revenue, cash-flow management and the contribution of its associate company.
