Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBT) has reported a significant increase in profitability for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, supported by higher revenue and lower finance costs. The company’s latest financial results show continued improvement in earnings compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to the financial statements submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PIBT recorded a net profit of Rs810.45 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with Rs616.52 million in the same quarter last year. This represents an increase of approximately 31.4% year-on-year.
Revenue Rises to Rs5.12 Billion
PIBT’s revenue from contracts with customers increased to Rs5.12 billion during the quarter, up from Rs3.98 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. The increase of approximately 28.6% reflects stronger revenue generation during the reporting period.
The company’s cost of services rose to Rs3.34 billion from Rs2.69 billion a year earlier. Despite the higher operating costs, gross profit increased to Rs1.78 billion, compared with Rs1.29 billion in the same period last year.
These figures indicate that the company achieved higher gross earnings alongside its revenue growth.
Profit Before Tax Nearly Doubles
The company’s profit before income tax climbed to Rs1.29 billion for the quarter, compared with Rs683.34 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. This represents growth of approximately 88.9%.
One of the major contributors to the improved performance was a reduction in finance costs. PIBT’s finance costs declined to Rs127.98 million from Rs289.14 million a year earlier, providing additional support to its profitability.
Other income also increased to Rs28.77 million from Rs8.62 million in the same period last year.
However, taxation increased substantially to Rs481.21 million from Rs66.82 million, partially offsetting the improvement in profit before tax.
Earnings Per Share Improves
PIBT’s earnings per share (EPS) increased to Rs0.45 for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with Rs0.35 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The improvement in EPS reflects the company’s higher net profit during the reporting period and may be of interest to investors monitoring the company’s earnings performance.
Financial Position Strengthens
The company’s total assets reached Rs31.21 billion as of September 30, 2026, compared with Rs30.82 billion at June 30, 2026.
Total equity and reserves increased to approximately Rs19.65 billion from Rs18.84 billion at the end of June. Accumulated profit also improved to Rs1.77 billion from Rs963.26 million over the same period.
These figures indicate an improvement in the company’s reported equity position during the first quarter of the financial year.
Operating Cash Flow Remains Positive
PIBT generated net cash from operating activities of Rs39.26 million during the quarter, down from Rs484.53 million in the corresponding period last year.
The lower operating cash flow, despite higher accounting profits, is an important factor for investors to monitor. Changes in working capital, including trade receivables, advances and other payables, affected the company’s cash generation during the period.
Net cash used in investing activities stood at Rs3.24 million, compared with Rs81.05 million in the same quarter of the previous year.
Cash and cash equivalents at the end of the period amounted to Rs855.29 million, up from Rs688.99 million a year earlier.
No Dividend Announced
In its announcement dated October 27, 2026, PIBT informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange that its board of directors had not recommended a cash dividend, bonus shares, right shares or any other entitlement for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
The company also stated that its quarterly report would be transmitted in accordance with applicable requirements.
Outlook
Pakistan International Bulk Terminal’s latest results highlight a strong increase in revenue, gross profit and net earnings during the quarter. Lower finance costs also contributed to the improvement in profitability, while earnings per share rose year-on-year.
However, the decline in operating cash flow and the increase in taxation remain important considerations when assessing the company’s overall financial performance.
Investors will likely continue to monitor PIBT’s revenue growth, operating cash generation, financing expenses and future quarterly results to evaluate whether the company can sustain its earnings momentum throughout the financial year.
